What Happened When I Ate Nothing But “Healthy” Fast Food For A Week

– Fast food is cheap and convenient.
But hidden in between
the burgers and tacos
are some “healthy” options:
salads, grilled chicken,
yogurts, oatmeal, power burritos.
Doesn’t sound too bad, right?
I spent a week eating nothing
but these “healthy” fast foods
and I lost six-and-a-half pounds.
But even though I lost
about a pound a day,
it didn’t really go well.
I live in New York City,
a place with every possible
food you could want.
Eating healthy here, it’s a breeze.
But across America,
there are more than
200,000 fast food joints,
and they’re bringing in
more than $200 billion a year in sales.
And no matter where you go,
you’re never far from a place
like McDonald’s or Taco Bell.
But in recent years,
consumers want better, healthier choices,
and the traditional fast food places
have been losing customers
to those fast casual healthy options.
The rules were pretty simple:
Eat every major meal at a
national fast food chain
and stick to the healthy options.
McDonald’s, Wendy’s,
Burger King, Taco Bell,
Dunkin’ Donuts, Subway, and Chick-fil-A;
nothing but them for a week.
Yeah, I lost almost seven pounds,
but let’s take a close
look at the numbers.
On a normal day, I’m eating
around 2,500 calories.
An adult man should be having
about 2,400 to 2,600 calories a day.
But on this fast food plan,
my calories plummeted.
Most of these meals came
in under 400 calories,
and that was one of my first problems.
I’d eat and just a couple
hours later, I was starving.
And I had days when I didn’t
eat more than 1,000 calories.
Now, some of these meals were really good.
My favorite was this
grilled chicken market salad
from Chick-fil-A.
It had blueberries, strawberries, apples;
it was delicious and it
was actually healthy.
However, a lot of the other salads
from Burger King, McDonald’s, and Wendy’s
were loaded with salt, often more than 50%
of what I needed for the
entire day, from a salad.
In fact, excess salt was
a problem the entire week.
I thought I had hit the jackpot
with Taco Bell’s al Fresco menu.
They take off all the
cheese and mayo-based sauces
and replace it with
lettuce and pico de gallo.
One night I got tacos,
another night I got a
power cantina burrito,
and these were meals with
more protein than usual.
So, I felt like I was getting enough food.
They were good, too good.
It was all salt.
In fact, just one burrito
had almost as much salt
as I needed in just one day.
The American Heart Association
says we should limit our sodium
to about 2,300 milligrams a day,
but the ideal is closer
to 1,500 milligrams a day,
especially for a person like
me with high blood pressure.
But if you look at my sodium
intake, it was high every day,
yet I was barely getting
the calories I needed.
If I wanted to keep the
sodium down, I was starving.
If I wanted to feel full,
salt through the roof.
You see, that’s an issue
in the fast food industry.
Wendy’s even acknowledges on their website
that there’s going to be a trade-off
between salt and flavor.
It was weird.
I didn’t feel healthy at
all throughout the week,
even though I was eating
healthy foods and losing weight.
And on the last day,
I had this massive headache
that was just infuriating.
These places, they’re supposed to be
tasty, cheap, and convenient.
But it wasn’t cheap.
Every healthy option was
expensive, but left me hungry.
For eight grilled nuggets
and this tiny kale salad
at Chick-fil-A, $12.
For the power Mediterranean
salad at Wendy’s,
it was almost $8, yet I
could get a cheeseburger,
nuggets, fries, and a soda for only $4.
That brings me to another problem.
Walk into McDonald’s and you get hit
with that sweet, sweet french fry smell,
and I had to get a salad.
Would I recommend this to anyone?
Nope, unless you’re stuck on
the road with no other options.
Though there was a bright
spot: breakfast at Subway.
They have these
egg-white-and-cheese sandwiches,
which I got covered in
spinach and peppers.
And let me tell you, it was good.
But after all this, I
just want a cheeseburger.

  1. How about "slightly less unhealthy" 😂🤣😆 …none of that fuckery is good for you or even remotely healthy.

  2. I have tried to like Burger King but there's obviously a BIG reason why it's not as big as McDonalds, and that's SALT. I actually got pissed eating the Angry Whopper a few days ago, as a person who doesn't eat burger king ever, i decided I'd finally give them a try and I had major stomach pains and headaches a day after eating that burger, like jesus one of those burgers has enough salt to paint a days worth of food with salt. If you don't want high blood pressure or hypertension when you grow up, do yourself a favor and never eat at Burger King. If not, BK step up your damn game.

  3. If u have high blood pressure you shouldn't be eating fast food period

  4. Eat everything but go to gym and work out regulary and you will be fine

  5. Based on this guys appearance he is overweight at best, and possibly obese. A person his weight should be consuming a deficit of calories to lose weight. Additionally, if he is used to consuming larger volumes of food, his stomach will be larger, and he will not feel satiated when consuming an appropriate volume of food at first; it takes time for your body to adjust.

This video felt like a way for him to relieve his guilt about being overweight and unhealthy.

  6. Why is he acting like low cal is bad for you for weight loss?

  7. OOOOOHH SCHOKER!!! Food from fast food chains is unhealthy :O unbelievable!

  8. Pretty sure everyone already knew you had high blood pressure…

  9. Why don't you just go and cook your own food with real ingredients?

  10. 1:14 I think that’s the same footage from the Beyoncé diet or not. IDK

  11. Because im an italian, eating at fast Food is a sin for me

  12. While he’s eating healthy

I’m sitting in the corner eating a whole box of cookies and a tub of ice cream crying

  13. Calorie deficit is a good thing. Drink more water. Lose weight. The human body can survive days not eating, with your body fat you could easily go 20 days fasting only drinking water. Also, you can have your cheese burger. Just take the buns off, just lower your daily carb intake and your body will be forced to go into ketosis and use fat for fuel.

  14. Bruh, I know he didn’t lose 6 pounds from eating fast food, and it’s not healthy either

  15. Burger =

    Buns = Carbohydrates
    Vegetables = Vitamin
    Patty = Protein

  16. the headache is withdrawal from the unhealthy lifestyle you are used to living in.
You have more than enough fat on your body to withstand 1200 calories a day for 2-3 months.
Your blood pressure will drop due to weight loss and the amount of salt will not raise it back to the levels you have with all that weight.

  17. They go into more depth in the FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY SUPER SIZE ME. Plagarism at it's worst.

Also it's impossible to say you're starving, be honest.

  18. See ? Foods like these are a scam !
You're way better off with an actual burger combo and a normal soda

  19. This video is sponsored by fast food company..don't misguide people junk food is very bad for your health.

  20. As weird as it sounds I enjoy apples and cinnamon oatmeal 1 bag a day for breakfast over any processed nasty food and oatmeal is good for the heart and good the pooper . My lunch is healthy with peanut butter and jelly and some chips glass of water dinner is fries and chicken seasoned with garlic and little salt

  21. Cut down sugar you'll lose 5 pounds a week as well and you'll have improved mood as well after the hangover ofc

  22. Yeah the combo salads were expensive but a lot of these places have value menu side salads that are like $2-3 each so get two and that's a $3-4 salad and they usually don't have the unhealthy accoutrement that the meal versions have

  23. Now go watch chosen king it’s all planned https://youtu.be/nX7H9nB_Ytk

  24. dont actually try this
low amount of calories make your body go into "starvation mode"
starvation mode is when your body stocks up fat for when you actually start starving and have no food.
doing this diet would cause you to gain more fat and lose muscle

  25. The reason most ‘healthy’ options are more expensive is because they aren’t loaded with fake crap and chemicals. Plus, even if it’s a salad, doesn’t make it healthy.

  26. What poor presentation. Maybe stop eating fast food entirely and just cook something actually healthy at home? Unhealthy fast food is cheap because it's easy to make garbage and add a chalkful of garbage seasoning that keeps you addicted and coming back for more. These places want to keep you fat and want you to keep giving them money.

  27. Subway is the best way they can never leave it that food still bomb I love Subway

  28. If i did that after it was done i would immediately go to the heart attcks grill

  29. 2:52 stop listening to American health and food recommendation, they're so way off, take a look on actual scientific data and you'll see that 1,500mg per day actually increases way more the risk of heart diseas than 4,000mg per day. And I'm talking about sodium, not salt which is not exactly the same thing

  30. There is not such thing as "healthy" fast food.. Only healthy food is when you buy vegetables and prepare it at home

  31. what asses they need to cut back the salt, doesnt matter if people wont buy them. cut back the sodium

  32. My favorite salad is a handful of rucula, and a handful of spinach. Mix with shredded carrots, cucumber and other veggies. Dice an apple and sprinkle olive oil and vinegear, maybe add some beans. Definitely avocados are always welcome. In short lots of real greens and veggies, with some fruit for sweetness.

  33. Shiiiit I do me about 3-4 Muscle Milks threw out the day, then I'll eat a actual meal as my dinner, (Fitlife meals) some days Ill eat a little more , and I am super active. 60+miles a week on the fixed gear.

  34. There is NO such thing as a healthy fast food, UNLESS it's vegan or plant based.

  35. Holy crap. 7 lbs in 7 days!?

While this shouldn't be a way of life due to the sodium, this would be an awesome crash diet before a wedding, reunion, or big date.

  36. Salt and sugar are used as preservatives
The food u get from these chains can be 2-80 day old and they look the same

  37. These options aren't meant to be healthy, but less bad. They're not intended for your regular visitor, but more someone whose been dragged along by their friend or someone they're related to and don't want to appear out of place by not ordering anything.

  38. I hate to see how america freaking destroyed mexican food, I mean burritos are supposed to be delicious tasty and healthy that is the food of extremely low income people in mexico, to make burrito here in america it only cost $1.25 why are these companies selling it fo 9.50 like chipotle?

  39. when you think you are eating a good healthy burrito
but instead it’s condensed fortnite players

  40. I’m female, 23 under 100 pounds and can genuinely say that I eat McDonald’s weekly out of my every day life, it’s not good.. it’s to long of a story so I’ll leave it at that lmfao!

Fun fact: I don’t even eat the nuggets I eat around the entire edges and then rip off the battered part and legit just eat that 😂😂😂 !! You should try it it’s actually good man, nice mouth feel too.

EDIT; sorry to come back again, felt like some unfinished business.. the batter is better then the actual nugget feel.

Edit- again, sorry! Yeah so better explanation would be.. I literally just pick of the fried parts.. that’s the word I was looking for!

  41. The liberal Democrats propaganda destroyed people minds with gay flags they brain is gone , Has nothing to do with calories no it doesn't contain real salt ,real salt is good for you , you lost weight like vegan that was very unhealthy. The food doesn't contain real meat with fat you starving inside and you will pay for it later

  42. The American Heart Association and it’s clakm that the average male should shoot for 2,300 milligrams of salt each day is incredibly controversial. Some say this number should be much higher. Sodium is more dangerous when you don’t have enough of it rather than having”too much”

  43. Uhm… The regular options would include the calories and cholesterols including the salts…
